The England international led his country to the Euro 2020 final by scoring seven goals and assisting nine more in all competitions for the Gunners last season. Bukayo Saka of Arsenal is the only Premier League player nominated for the Kopa Trophy at the upcoming Ballon d’Or awards.
The award recognizes the best Under-21 player in the world, and Saka is joined on the 10-man shortlist by England teammate Jude Bellingham.
The remaining nominees are Eduardo Camavinga, Gavi, Jamal Musaila, Josko Gvardiol, Ryan Gravenberch, Karim Adeyemi, Nuno Mendes, and Florian Wirtz.
Saka thrived under Mikel Arteta last season, scoring 11 goals and providing seven assists to help England recover from a disappointing Euro 2020 campaign. For the second year in a row, the 20-year-old was named Arsenal’s Player of the Season.
However, Saka is not the favorite for the award, with Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga expected to win after playing a key role in his club’s Champions League success.
Pedri of Barcelona won the award, with Jude Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund coming in second and Jamal Musiala of Bayern Munich coming in third.
Left-back for Paris Saint-Germain Nuno Mendes narrowly missed out on a spot in the top three, and Mason Greenwood of Manchester United edged Saka out of the top five. Lionel Messi won the Ballon d’Or for a record-extending seventh time, while Alexia Putellas won the women’s award.
