Eden Hazard

Eden Hazard will remain at Real Madrid next season, Carlo Ancelotti said on Saturday, as the Belgian is ready to show his value following a horrific three years. Hazard was one of the finest players in the world when he joined Real Madrid in 2019 for an initial fee of 100 million euros, but he has been hampered by injuries since going to Spain. At the end of March, the 31-year-old underwent surgery on his right ankle in the hopes of resolving the latest in a long line of fitness difficulties.

Hazard has been confined to a bit-part position in the team even when he has been available this season, but Ancelotti says he will not depart this summer.

“We haven’t discussed it; the strategy is fairly obvious,” Ancelotti stated during a press conference.

“He has a lot of drive because he hasn’t had a nice time these last few years and he wants to demonstrate all of his skill, which he hasn’t been able to do for a variety of reasons.”

Hazard is back in action and might face Cadiz on Sunday after undergoing surgery to remove a metal plate that had been implanted to stabilize his foot in March 2020.

However, he will have competition for a starting spot in Real Madrid’s lineup next season, with Vinicius Junior developing as one of the team’s most dynamic players this season and Kylian Mbappe due to come from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

“You always play a lot of games with a group like Real Madrid’s,” Ancelotti stated. “There is fatigue, and we will rotate, even if we haven’t done much this year.”

“I don’t think the number of minutes is as essential as the quality,” Ancelotti remarked. “In Rodrygo, we have a clear illustration. He hasn’t played a lot of minutes, but he’s played well and made an impact.”

Ancelotti stated that Karim Benzema will be rested against Cadiz, despite the fact that the Frenchman is one goal away from passing Raul as Real Madrid’s all-time leading scorer.

Benzema and Raul both have 323 goals for Real Madrid, trailing only Cristiano Ronaldo, who has 450.

Vinicius and Thibaut Courtois will also miss out for the La Liga winners as Ancelotti attempts to keep his players fresh for the Champions League final against Liverpool on May 28. “I’ll rest them because they deserve it,” Ancelotti stated.
