Rio Ferdinand has warned Liverpool that they will be up against a group of serial winners when they face Real Madrid in the Champions League final.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side advanced to the final in Paris later this month after coming from behind to defeat City at the Santiago Bernabeu. City led on aggregate by two goals going into the 90th minute, thanks to Riyad Mahrez’s goal, which added to their 4-3 first-leg victory last week.
But, as the game entered stoppage time, Rodrygo scored a stunning equalizer before heading his team ahead just seconds later. Ruben Dias then went in clumsily on Karim Benzema in the first five minutes of extra-time, giving away a penalty, which the striker converted to send his team to the final.
The Reds advanced to the final after overcoming their own scare on Tuesday night, coming from behind to defeat Villarreal. And, ahead of the final, former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has warned the Reds that they will be up against a team that trusts each other and never gives up.
“You should never have any doubts about the players on this team.” “We’ve always said that experience matters a lot in this competition, but they showed heart and desire,” he told BT Sport.
“These players have been there and seen it all. Because they have so many players on this team who have won multiple Champions Leagues, you never saw them panic during this tournament.
“Regardless of where they are or what players they have, these boys trust each other, trust the manager, and this crowd has been insane.”
