Manchester United are happy and excited about the appointment of Erik ten Hag, as per Cristiano Ronaldo, but the new manager should be given time.
United have gone five years without winning a major title and will finish with the fewest points in Premier League history following last weekend’s 4-0 thrashing at Brighton.
Ten Hag, the current Ajax manager, will take over at Old Trafford on a three-year contract this summer, with Ralf Rangnick’s dismal temporary tenure ending in the season finale against Crystal Palace on May 22.
“What I know about him is that he performed an excellent job with Ajax and that he is an experienced coach.” But we need to give him time,” Ronaldo told Manchester United’s official website.
“Things must change in the way he wants.
“Of course, I hope we succeed, because if you succeed, all of Manchester will succeed as well.” “All the best to him.”
Ronaldo has scored 24 goals in all competitions since rejoining United last summer, and he still has a year left on his deal.
It’s unclear how the 37-year-old striker fits into Ten Hag’s plans.
“Not just as players, but as supporters, we are thrilled and excited,” he added.
“I wish him the best, and let us hope that we will win trophies next year.”
Meanwhile, former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes Frenkie de Jong will be an excellent first signing for Ten Hag.
“I’ve always thought he was a top player,” the former defender said on his YouTube channel Vibe with Five. I kept a close eye on him during the Champions League semi-finals, and I saw a lot of him as a member of the BT team.
“They’re suggesting Frenkie de Jong may be the first player signed by Erik ten Hag, and I’d say ‘yes, great signing.'”
“He doesn’t have a big physique, but he’s fast with the ball, a pretty good dribbler, can get out of tight situations, makes solid judgments, is a strong passer, and his balance and dribbling abilities are excellent.”
“[Man United] are looking for guys who can control the ball and the game and get the squad functioning in terms of balance and possession, and I think he would be a good addition.”
